Things to Do in Autumn

by Anastasia Fermin, Sunshima blog writer

Autumn is a special and unique time of year. It’s not as hot as Summer, and not as cold as Winter so it’s an ideal time for both indoor and outdoor activities. If you’re wondering how to spend your free time during Autumn, say no more. There are many fun and exciting things to do in Autumn and it’s a good idea to take advantage of them before Winter comes!

Take long walks

It’s true that you can take a walk any time of year (even though it’s more of a challenge in the Winter). However, taking long walks during Autumn is a pleasant and unique experience. The leaves change into vibrant colours and fall onto pavements and pathways. It’s fun and even a bit soothing to walk over the leaves and crunch them! The weather is also nice and cool so you don’t overheat like in the summer. Maintaining a regular schedule of walking outdoors does wonders for physical and mental health. You can take things up a notch and change your scenery while the weather is fine. Take a trip to the river or beach to walk and explore the landscape and enjoy the great outdoors.

Visit a farm or farmer’s market

Autumn is a season of harvest. Autumn foods such as pumpkins and blackberries are especially popular and many people frequent farms to pick and purchase fresh produce to use in their favourite Autumn recipes. Taking a trip to a farm or market is a great activity for the whole family to enjoy. Some farms make an event out of it and there is a chance meet the animals or experience a food festival on certain days! It’s also a nice social event that friends and family can enjoy together.

Be charitable

Every season can be a season of giving and Autumn is no exception. Not everyone has the means or resources to enjoy the Autumn and Winter holidays or even afford basic necessities. It’s common at this time of year to donate warm clothes, food and other items to make someone’s life a bit happier. If you did some Autumn cleaning, you can donate to a charitable cause or contribute to initiatives which aid the vulnerable groups in society.

Have an Autumn picnic

Another great family bonding experience is to plan an Autumn picnic. It’s a beautiful time of year and It’s easy to create a fun experience out of a simple picnic. You can take photos, create fond memories and spend quality time with loved ones. Picnics are a great way to spend even more time outdoors and take advantage of the Autumn scenery.

Give thanks

Autumn is a season of transition from long summer days to cold Winter nights. It’s also a time of harvest and Thanksgiving and many people take this time to reflect and show gratitude. It doesn’t have to be much, but you can show thanks to the people around you with simple gestures, kind words and positive energy!
