Autumn Goals 2022

by Anastasia Fermin and Sunshima Team

With summer behind us and the mass return to school, work or college, the onset of autumn is a good time to look at what you want to achieve over the next few months.  Indeed, some even say that September is the new January with the seasonal transition being an ideal time to set autumn goals. There is less pressure than at the New Year and the summer months may have provided you with some time to think about what you really want in your life. So how do you start?

Start Small

Don’t stress yourself with big life changing plans, there are many benefits to setting short-term goals, not only are they more achievable but they can help you set the groundwork for bigger goals. You can break up larger goals into smaller segments to be accomplished weekly, monthly or seasonally. Setting goals in this way will stop you from being overwhelmed and help you to have a more realistic approach to long term aspirations.

Time For Change

Let the changes of the season inspire you and look at what works or does not work for you, so like the trees shedding their leaves, you too can shed old habits, thoughts and ideas that no longer serve you. Think about what you want to improve in your life and what you can do to make a positive change. Perhaps you want to believe in yourself more or just make more time to enjoy what’s around you.

Treat yourself

Remember when you were young and would be given a treat for doing something well? You can still do this as an adult, a little incentive or even a big reward is a great way to motivate and congratulate yourself. It helps you stay on track and feel encouraged to get your tasks done. You can look forward to the weekends to claim your prize and set the pace for the next week.

Don’t forget self-care

And of course, remember to look after yourself. It’s all well and good to set goals that help you to further your career, education, or family life, but don’t neglect self-care. This can be anything from making a goal to cook healthier meals, to becoming more active by adding exercise into your routine. Set a goal that enables you to relax, have fun and enjoy the season. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is something you want to do and look forward to.

Seasonal goal setting

If you struggled all year or felt guilty about not achieving your New Year resolutions, you have the autumn to try again and this time you can do it in a way that makes is easier. Goal setting on a seasonal basis may work better for you if you are easily demotivated or distracted. You may also find it easier to set goals in this way rather than those big New Year proclamations. Make it a habit and see what you can accomplish!

The transitional season of autumn is an ideal time to look at what you want from the rest of the year and you can look forward to the New Year powered by this positive momentum.
