Enjoying Easter in 2022

by Karen Alexander, Sunshima guest blog writer

Clocks have gone forward and with it our days are longer, there is more sunshine and trees are waking from their winter slumber. We can say goodbye to winter and look forward to spring enjoying the delicious holiday that is Easter. Thanks to Covid restrictions, the last two Easters have been subdued, and even with the partial easing of lockdown rules in England last year, many of us chose to stay at home. 2022 will be our first Easter since Covid without any lockdown rules, so how can we make the most of this first spring Holiday?

Egg Hunt

This is the classic Easter activity and in 2022 there is a huge choice with many venues holding their own version of this popular Easter pastime.  Many involve following Easter trails where younger visitors can follow the clues, find hidden colourful eggs or even gold bunny statutes and be rewarded with a tasty chocolate prize at the end. The National Trust have Easter trails at many of their sites with fun nature inspired family activities.  A great way to enjoy the outdoors, spend time with family and have a sweet treat!

Easter Fun Run

After all that chocolate a fun run is just the thing to burn some calories.  You can run as a family with some events being open to the youngest competitors, think Toddler’s trot and of course dressing up is to be encouraged.  There are also longer distances for the more competitive and for some it will be the start of their spring running season. Running improves your overall physical health and is beneficial to your mental wellbeing.  Many runners simply feel better after a run and even a member of the Sunshima team solves many a problem while out running.

Easter Spa Recharge

Let’s face it, after the last few months and all that is happening in the world, this is a good time to stop and look after yourself.  Modern life is demanding with work, family, social media and domestic obligations. Spas offer many treatments such as massage and aromatherapy aimed at helping you relax, destress and calm your mind.  Also, beauty treatments such as facials will leave you feeling wonderful, confident and recharged ready for the months ahead.

Seeing Family and Friends

Thanks to omicron many of us had to change our plans for Christmas with our extended family and friends.  This Easter therefore may be the first chance for a big get together with our loved ones. A potluck lunch could be arranged to keep it simple and less stressful or arrange to go to a restaurant. There is nothing more joyful than seeing a large family gathering from grandparents to newer additions enjoying each other’s company. Supportive social connections boost our happiness and our sense of belonging.

A Thought for Others

Lastly if you can, do not forget those who may not be so fortunate, donate to the local food bank, say hello to that neighbour who lives on their own or help with the clean-up of a local area in need of some care.

Whatever you do I hope you take the chance to enjoy Easter 2022.  It has been a long winter and now we can look forward to the delights of Spring!!!
