Winter is the last season of the year and often one of the hardest to get through. At this time, many of us are already very drained and feeling burnt out from getting through a whole year of ups and downs, exacerbated by the global pandemic. Winter is a great time to pamper yourself and end the year feeling rejuvenated and ready to face the New Year.
Enjoy self-care
Self-care is something that should be a norm but because life gets so busy, it’s often neglected. Make up for lost time and practice self-care in the Winter. Make some time to treat yourself to an at-home spa session. Here are some ways to achieve the spa experience at home:
- Light scented candles and take a long bath in the tub while listening to soothing music
- Treat your skin with DIY facials
- Massage aching muscles and relax with an acupressure mat and pillow set
- Try a hair mask to nourish your hair as Winter weather is so cold and dry
Decorate your home
Nothing cheers up a room better than fresh, beautiful flowers when the outdoors is so cold and grey. Give your home a mood boost with colourful décor, festive accents, and things that make you feel cosy. Make your home a safe, warm haven to return to, even on the dreariest days.
Travel
If you have vacation days under your belt, why not plan a trip? You can take a local trip to a scenic location and spend a few days at a bed and breakfast or book a flight to somewhere warm and enjoy some time in the sun. If you can’t stay overnight or spend time away from home, take a drive to someplace nice instead.
Catch up on hobbies
If you haven’t had time all year to indulge in some of your favourite pastimes, there is still time. Use the Winter months to catch up on reading while you sit by the fireplace, write some poetry (a great way to express yourself), or pull out your paintbrushes and get creative. Hobbies keep you occupied, especially when the weather is not ideal. They also help you to feel like yourself again when you haven’t been doing the things you love and enjoy for a long time.
Exercise
Yoga and meditation are good ways to pamper yourself during the cold Winter months. Take time out to relax, reflect and calm your mind with gentle yoga poses and try making meditation a part of your daily routine. Winter can make you feel like curling up under your blanket all day but a little bit of yoga and meditation every day will make you feel a lot better about yourself!
How do you usually like to pamper yourself in the Winter months? It’s important to take time to attend to your wants and needs when you can. Self-care is an essential part of taking care of your mind, body, and soul, and it’s very healthy to pamper yourself and take time to unwind!
