The Power of Being Positive – Benefits and Tips

by Sunshima Team

Remember the lockdown when we all looked forward to life returning to normal and sunnier days. I must admit that those days now seem distant and while we can look forward to better weather, the world’s general outlook does not seem so bright. So what can we do?  Well one thing we can do is try and be positive. So, what are the benefits of being more positive and how can we practice it?

First, what is it to be more positive. It is the practice of focusing on the good in any situation.  It’s about finding the silver lining and choosing to see the glass as half full rather than half empty. It is not about denying reality or ignoring challenges; it’s about approaching life with an optimistic attitude and a growth mindset.

So, what are the benefits? Well, for starters, a positive outlook can help you feel happier and more fulfilled. When you focus on the good things in your life, you’re more likely to feel gratitude and contentment. Being positive can help you build stronger relationships, both personally and professionally. After all we are naturally drawn to positive, optimistic individuals.

Positivity can also have a real impact on your physical health. Studies have shown that people who practice positive thinking have lower levels of stress, which can lead to a range of health benefits. From lower blood pressure to better immune function, a positive mindset can help you live a healthier, more vibrant life.

So, how can you be more positive?  Here, are some tips to get you started:

Practice Gratitude

One of the easiest ways to be more positive to practice gratitude. Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the things you’re grateful for, write them down and it can be anything, nothing is off limits. This will help you focus on what you have and what brings you joy.

Surround Yourself with Positivity

The people and things we surround ourselves with can have a big impact on our mood and outlook. Make an effort to surround yourself with positivity, whether that means spending time with uplifting friends or listening to inspiring music or podcasts. This is a good time to rid yourself of anything or anyone who only brings negativity into your life.

Lose Those Negative Thoughts

And speaking of negativity, what about those negative thoughts. Yes, it can be difficult to be positive when things go wrong, and I have even been told that this is easier than being positive but rethinking those thoughts can give you a different outlook. For example, if you’re feeling overwhelmed at work, try to focus on the fact that you have a job and can handle the challenges.

Live in the moment

Rather than worrying about things that could happen possibly… focus on what is happening right now. You can’t change the past and you don’t know the future, all you know is your experience right now. By embracing the present moment, you can make the most of your life now.

Smile

No matter what language you speak or where you are from, we all understand a smile. Smiling can help boost your mood by releasing endorphins, which are natural feel-good chemicals in the brain. And a smile is contagious, spreading positivity and happiness to those around us. These tips are just a start and one last thing, being positive doesn’t mean you ignore life’s struggles, but it does help you face them with the expectation that things will go well.
