How to Stay Motivated When Things Get Tough – Six Easy Tips

by Lauren Hodges, Sunshima blog writer

It’s no secret that the last few years have been difficult for many people. While the worst of the pandemic is hopefully behind us and life returns to normal, there are new challenges to face.  Current news seems full of gloom and it can be hard to remain motivated when times are tough.  In this article I’ll show you how to continue staying focused and motivated with these six tips:

Count your Achievements

One great way to stay motivated is by counting your achievements. Whether it’s achieving a new goal or finishing the day with more than you had when you woke up, getting in touch with how much progress you’re making can help remind yourself that there are easy wins worth celebrating!

Organize your Life

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when things get hard especially when it feels like there is no end in sight. An organized space and life can help you keep a clear mind and make things easier to handle.

List your Goals

Reviewing your goals is a great way to stay motivated. Writing down what you want to accomplish will help keep you focused on the end result.

Stay in Touch with Friends and Family

It’s important to stay in touch with friends and family while you’re working on your goals. I know it can be tough, but if you have a friend or family member who is supportive of you reaching your goal then they’ll help keep the motivation alive! You don’t even need to speak – just sending them updates about how things are going or sending them photos of the progress you’re making can help keep your motivation up. You could even form a support bubble with you both motivating each other and cheering on the other’s successes.

Exercise

Another important piece of staying motivated is exercise. I know it can be hard to get up and work out, but if you do then the days when you’re feeling less than stellar might not seem like such a challenge! Bear in mind that you don’t always have to do something strenuous, simply going for a morning walk or some yoga stretching can still be very beneficial and will give you some much needed me time. Exercise also has other benefits – from increased energy levels to improved sleep quality to increased focus.

Experiment with Cooking

Cooking is one of the best ways to stay motivated. Learn a new dish, experiment with spices and different cooking methods until you find something that’s right for you! Cooking can be both creative and therapeutic – I know many people who have found their way out of lethargy by getting into cooking.

I hope these tips are handy.  Yes, times are tough but you will get through this.  Don’t forget, motivation is something that can come from within you!  You are your own best motivator and there are always ways we can continue to stay motivated and keep growing.
